On March 22, Enlargement Hub organised a closed seminar with the European Commission officials, academics and experts on Agenda 2030.
Adopted in 1997, Agenda 2000 set a direction for reforming integration strategy in the EU ahead of the Big Bang enlargement. As the EU of today faces another major enlargement, a new agenda is needed taking into account the new challenges and the lessons learned from the previous wave of enlargement . This seminar will provide an opportunity to reflect on the policies that need to be reshaped to work for both the EU and the new Member States.
It should provide a single framework for the development of the Union and its policies, the horizontal issues related to enlargement and the future budgetary perspective, taking into account the prospect of an enlarged Union.
Agenda 2030 will have to be linked to the revised Enlargement methodology and the ongoing accession negotiations. DI’s and RSCAS’s knowledge on the last completed round of EU enlargement and on the dynamics of post-accession democratic and rule of law backsliding makes them key strategic partners for convening stakeholders to generate and deliver informed and impactful academic research and policy expertise that supports Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
